CM Sukhu met Union Minister of State for Science, Technology, and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, to push for several key technological and scientific projects tailored for Himachal Pradesh’s tribal and remote regions. Highlighting the state’s potential, CM Sukhu proposed setting up an astronomy and astrophysics centre in Lahaul-Spiti and Pangi, modeled after Ladakh’s Hanle facility. This initiative aims to advance research, inspire local youth, and drive eco-friendly, knowledge-based tourism. Additionally, the Chief Minister sought CSIR support to expand lavender cultivation demonstration sites, offering farmers a lucrative alternative crop option.
To foster scientific temperament among school students, CM Sukhu requested central assistance to establish science museums in aspirational blocks across the state. Addressing climate resilience, he urged the Union Government to fast-track the deployment of automatic rain gauges in every gram panchayat and automatic weather stations at the block level, ensuring farmers get real-time, localized data for better decision-making. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh responded positively, assuring full support and sympathetic consideration for the state’s demands. Senior state officials, including Chief Secretary Kamlesh Kumar Pant and Principal Advisor Ram Subhag Singh, attended the meeting.
