CM Sukhu today paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary at Sadbhawana Chowk, Chhota Shimla. Remembering him as the “Architect of Modern India”, the Chief Minister urged citizens to follow the ideals and vision of the late leader, who laid the foundation for a progressive and inclusive nation.
Highlighting Rajiv Gandhi’s transformative contributions, the Chief Minister said that the Information Technology revolution in India stemmed from his far-sighted leadership—benefiting today’s youth across the country. He also acknowledged Gandhi’s pivotal role in empowering women through the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments, which granted reservation to women in Panchayati Raj Institutions.
He noted that this legacy has been carried forward by Sonia Gandhi, who played a key role in the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha, ensuring 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament and State Legislatures.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also administered an oath of national integration and communal harmony to officers and officials of the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat.
Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, HPCC President Pratibha Singh, and several ministers, MLAs, advisors, and senior officials were also present during the ceremony.
