In a joint initiative, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the Ministry of Education have launched a coordinated effort to ensure timely Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBUs) of Aadhaar for children aged 5 and 15 across the country. The update is critical for maintaining accurate biometric data and avoiding issues with authentication during access to government schemes or while registering for key examinations like NEET, JEE, and CUET.
To facilitate this, UIDAI has integrated MBU status tracking into the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+), enabling schools to identify students with pending updates. Schools are encouraged to organize MBU camps on campus, and states/UTs have been asked to actively support the drive.
CEO UIDAI, Bhuvnesh Kumar, has written to Chief Secretaries of all states and union territories to prioritize the initiative, highlighting that early action will prevent last-minute rushes and stress for students and parents alike. Nearly 17 crore Aadhaar records for children currently require biometric updates.
This collaboration is aimed at streamlining the update process and ensuring that all students remain seamlessly connected to essential services through a reliable Aadhaar system.
