World Red Cross Day was observed at Raj Bhavan today. Members and officials from the State Red Cross Society and Himachal Pradesh Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section adorned Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, who is also the President of Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Society and Lady Governor Janaki Shukla, who serves as Chairperson of State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section with iconic Red Cross flags to honor the occasion.
This year’s theme, ‘Keeping Humanity Alive’, resonated throughout the event. Governor Shukla also extended his support to the Red Cross Society through a contribution. Governor Shukla commended the relentless efforts of all the members and volunteers of the Indian Red Cross Society, Himachal Pradesh which have gone a long way in strengthening the Red Cross Movement in the State.
On this occasion, students of Government Senior Secondary School Portmore and Tibetan School, Chotta Shimla presented a cultural programme. They also presented a short play through which the message was given about how Red Cross volunteers come forward to help people in emergency situations. The students also pinned up the Red Cross flag on the Governor and Lady Governor.
The Governor and Lady Governor in a gesture of appreciation distributed sweets to the students. School children also took out a rally to enhance awareness about the Red Cross among the public.
Secretary to Governor and General Secretary to the State Red Cross Society Rajesh Sharma, Members of H.P. Red Cross Society and Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section and officers of Raj Bhavan were present among others on the occasion.
