Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said that the significance of Yoga was to understand it in depth, only then it would help in making it a part of the daily routine and the actual benefit could be taken.
He was speaking at the World Yoga Day 2024 seminar organized at the historic Gaiety Theater in Shimla on Saturday. The seminar was organized by Dev Bhoomi Seva Sansthan Ashram Shimla with the theme, ‘Yoga is a complete human philosophy and Yogacharya.’
He said that Yoga is more than just a series of physical exercises and it was a profound philosophy that encompasses the entirety of human existence. Originating in ancient India, yoga is a holistic practice that integrates the body, mind, and spirit, aiming to achieve a harmonious balance and a state of inner peace, he added. He said that its principles were rooted in the understanding that true well-being was a multifaceted concept, involving physical health, mental clarity, emotional stability, and spiritual fulfillment.
“In today’s fast-paced world, where stress and anxiety have become ubiquitous, the teachings of yoga offer a sanctuary of calm and introspection. The meditative practices promote a deep sense of inner peace and mindfulness, enabling us to navigate life’s challenges with greater equanimity,” said Shukla.
He said that today the world is also adopting this yoga tradition of our country. “Due to the concerted efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the first International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the world on 21st June 2015 and now it is being celebrated every year,” said the Governor.
He said that Yoga’s relevance extends beyond individual practice and it was a philosophy that advocates for compassion, mindfulness, and self-awareness, qualities that are essential for building a harmonious society. It encourages us to live in alignment with our higher selves and to contribute positively to the world around us. He hoped that the seminar would inspire to embrace yoga not only as a practice but as a way of life, fostering a culture of peace, well-being, and holistic growth.
