A three day National Sport State Level Chess Tournament took off at Dayanand Public School, Shimla. Inaugurated by the chief guest, Suman Rawat, Joint Director Sports Himachal Pradesh and P Sofat, Regional Director DAV HP Zone A the tournament has a huge number of seventeen teams with around a hundred participants from DAV institutions from all over Himachal. The players were motivated by the Chief Guest Suman Rawat who declared the championship open by playing the first move on a chess board.
Other distinguished guests included Kamna Beri, Principal DAV Lakkar Bazaar, Lakhbir Singh, Principal DAV Shogi who is also the observer for the tournament. Sanjeev Thakur and Mohinder Singh, members of the Chess Association Theog along with Madan Bhardwaj, Assistant Accounts Officer AG Office Shimla, are the arbiters, being National Level Chess players.
The event started with a formal welcome by Anupam, Principal Dayanand Public School who welcomed the guests with flowers and souvenirs. A patriotic song composed by music teacher Manoj was presented in honour of the brave soldiers of the country following which the championship was flagged off. The two day event will conclude with the announcement of the champions on 15th October, 2016.
