Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Tuesday announced the sanction of ₹30 crore to further strengthen and modernize the education sector in the Rampur Assembly constituency. The funds will be utilized for the construction of new school and college buildings, repair and renovation of old structures, development of new playgrounds, repair of existing grounds, and construction of boundary walls for educational institutions.

The Education Minister was addressing students, teachers, and parents after presiding as the chief guest at the annual prize distribution समारोह at Government Senior Secondary School, Dattnagar, in Rampur Assembly segment. During the event, he felicitated 62 meritorious students for their outstanding performance in academics and co-curricular activities.

Rohit Thakur emphasized that teachers and parents play a crucial role in shaping the future of children. He said the State Government has taken a major step to bring parity in the quality of education between government and private schools across Himachal Pradesh. To improve educational standards, necessary amendments have been made in education-related rules, the positive outcomes of which are now visible.

Congratulating the students and staff of Dattnagar School, the Education Minister highlighted that the school has maintained a 100 percent result in board examinations, with 29 students featuring in the top 100 merit list of the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education. He said children are the future of the nation and providing them with quality education is the foremost responsibility of the government.

He also informed that Dattnagar School has been developed as a cluster school, bringing 11 schools under its umbrella to ensure uniform access to quality education. The Minister noted that his third visit to the school during the current financial year reflects the institution’s excellence.

Science Block Under Construction at a Cost of ₹2.24 Crore

The Education Minister said that a new science block is being constructed in the school at a cost of ₹2.24 crore and the work is currently in progress. He directed officials to explore the possibility of constructing a modern multi-purpose auditorium on the top floor of the science block, assuring that additional budget provisions would be made for the same.

Highlighting increased enrollment, he congratulated the school management for enrolling 120 additional students, attributing this growth to the government’s initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education in government schools.

Rampur Development a Priority

Rohit Thakur said that Rampur Assembly constituency, being the birthplace and karmabhoomi of former Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh, remains a priority for development. He stated that to secure children’s future, the cluster system has been adopted to enhance educational quality.

The Minister informed that over the last three years, 7,000 teaching posts have been filled, 2,000 long-pending ad-hoc teachers have been regularized, and regular principals have been appointed in colleges where posts were lying vacant. Recently, promotions were approved to fill 400 principal posts in schools and 400 in colleges. Recruitment processes for JBT teachers are underway, while 937 TGT posts will be filled soon.

He also announced that English has been introduced from Class I in government schools to strengthen language skills. He said that for the first time in the country, teachers and students from government schools have been sent on foreign exposure visits. As per the NAS survey, Himachal Pradesh now ranks third among 28 states in terms of education quality, surpassing even Kerala, while the State has achieved second position in literacy after Goa, with a literacy rate reaching a historic 99.30 percent.

Based on enrollment strength, funds will be provided for construction of school buildings. Due to good enrollment, Dattnagar School will be affiliated with the CBSE Board. The school has already been allotted two vocational trades, and a third vocational trade in agriculture will be approved in the upcoming session. The Minister also assured the provision of 100 desks and tables for the school, fulfillment of other demands in a phased manner, and announced ₹50,000 for cultural activities.

During the ceremony, the Education Minister awarded prizes to 60 meritorious students and released the school’s annual magazine “Anveshna” for the academic year 2025–26.

Parents and School Management Key to Students’ Future: Nand Lal

Local MLA and Chairman of the 7th State Finance Commission, Nand Lal, congratulated the award-winning students and said that meaningful improvement in children’s future is possible only through the collective efforts of school management and parents. He urged the Education Minister to provide additional budget for completing the new buildings of Rampur College and Nankhari College.

Earlier, School Principal Yashpal Thakur welcomed the chief guest and presented a detailed report on the school’s annual activities, highlighting the institution’s journey since its establishment in 1952.

Inspection of School Projects

Education Minister Rohit Thakur also inspected the under-construction science block at Dattnagar School and directed officials to expedite the work. He visited Government High School, Nirath, assured resolution of issues raised by the school management, and directed officials to install speed breakers on the road in front of the school for students’ safety.
