The Indian Air Force marked a significant milestone today as the 47th Flight Test Course at the Air Force Test Pilot School culminated in a ceremonial valedictory event, the prestigious “Suranjan Das Dinner,” held at the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE), Bengaluru. The Chief of the Air Staff , Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, presided over the ceremony as the Chief Guest and presented certificates and awards to the graduating officers, commending their exemplary performance in one of the most challenging and elite training programmes in the armed forces.
The Flight Test Course, spanning 48 rigorous weeks, plays a crucial role in nurturing highly skilled test pilots and flight test engineers capable of evaluating the nation’s most advanced aerial platforms and systems. In his address, Air Chief Marshal Singh lauded the officers’ unwavering dedication, professional excellence, and their pivotal role in strengthening India’s aviation capabilities. He reaffirmed the IAF’s vision for self-reliance and technological advancement, particularly through indigenous projects like the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and the LCA MK-II, emphasizing the importance of test flying in achieving a robust and self-reliant defence ecosystem.
Several outstanding officers were recognized for their achievements during the course. Squadron Leader S Bhardwaj received the Suranjan Das Trophy for the Best All-Round Student Test Pilot. Squadron Leader Ajay Tripathi was honoured with the Chief of the Air Staff Trophy for Best in Flight Evaluation. The Maharaja Hanumanth Singh Sword for Best All-Round Flight Test Engineer was awarded to Squadron Leader Subhrajyoti Paul, while Wing Commander Ashwini Singh received the Dunlop Trophy for excellence in Flight Evaluation. Major Kaustubh Kunte was presented with the Kapil Bhargava Trophy for the Best Student in Ground Subjects.
The graduation ceremony not only celebrated personal achievement but also reaffirmed the Indian Air Force’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and Atmanirbhar Bharat — a self-reliant India built on indigenous capability and unwavering service ethos.
