The long-pending Phina Singh irrigation project in Kangra district has finally received a significant boost with the Central Government approving and releasing Rs. 55.51 crore under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY).

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, credited for this achievement, played a key role through persistent and focused efforts, including multiple discussions with Union Ministers and concerned departments. Since the formation of the government, Agnihotri prioritized unresolved issues related to this project and strongly advocated for them at the central level, leading to this substantial financial sanction.

The Phina Singh irrigation project, stalled for over a decade, now shines as a beacon of hope for the farmers of Kangra. Once completed, it will provide irrigation to thousands of hectares of farmland, promising a significant rise in agricultural productivity and income for local farmers.

Commenting on this development, Deputy Chief Minister Agnihotri said, “This is a major step towards securing the future of our farmers. Our government remains fully committed to ensuring adequate irrigation facilities for every farmer’s field.”

This release marks a crucial milestone towards revitalizing the agricultural infrastructure in Kangra, promising enhanced water availability and better crop yields, ultimately contributing to the socio-economic growth of the region.
