95% Affected Water Supply Schemes Temporarily Restored: Deputy CM

Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri today announced that 95 percent of the water supply schemes affected by recent torrential rains and flash floods in Himachal Pradesh have been temporarily restored, offering major relief to the public.

He said that of the 5,805 water supply schemes damaged during the disaster, 5,440 have already been restored through swift departmental action. The state has a total of 10,067 water supply schemes, which include 3,210 lift schemes, 335 tube wells, and 6,522 gravity-based systems. The estimated damage to these systems stands at ₹434.47 crore.

In addition, 1,293 irrigation schemes suffered damages worth ₹101.67 crore, while 43 flood protection structures sustained losses estimated at ₹19.77 crore. The disaster also affected 83 sewerage schemes (₹23.55 crore loss), and 319 hand pumps, resulting in an estimated loss of ₹81.52 lakh. In total, 7,543 schemes were impacted statewide, with cumulative losses estimated at ₹580.30 crore.

Commending the Jal Shakti Department for its quick response and dedication, the Deputy CM praised frontline workers for their commitment to restoring critical services under challenging conditions. “Their efforts have been nothing short of inspirational,” he said, adding that the state government stands firmly behind these teams and will continue to provide all necessary support.

He emphasized that the restoration of water supply and sewerage infrastructure remains a top priority and directed all concerned departments to ensure speedy, efficient, and permanent repairs in the coming weeks.
