CBSE Pushes for Equal Learning at St. Thomas’ School Shimla

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) organized a two-day inclusive education workshop on 11 and 12 March 2025 at St. Thomas’ School, Shimla. This pioneering event aimed to equip teachers with the necessary tools, mindset, and methodologies to foster inclusive learning environments for students of all abilities.

Inauguration & Welcome Ceremony

The workshop began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Principal Vidhupriya Chakravarty and Vice-Principal Sharon Nanda welcomed the distinguished guests and educators. Principal Chakravarty also shared a concise overview of the program’s objectives and structure.

Expert Guidance by CBSE Resource Persons

CBSE resource persons Mrs. Manjeet Jauhar and Mrs. Neetu Jhatta led the sessions. They engaged participants in thoughtful discussions around inclusive teaching practices and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. They provided insights into the 21 categories of disabilities and elaborated on the role of the Rehabilitation Council of India.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 60 teachers across various schools in the region, including:

  • Trinity International School, Fagu
  • Rashtriya Military School, Chail
  • Raja Dilip Singh Memorial School, Halog
  • The Good Shepherd School, Solan

The sessions highlighted the importance of:

  • Educating students with special needs in regular classrooms
  • Promoting emotional and mental well-being
  • Encouraging interpersonal relationships and values
  • Maintaining health, hygiene, and responsible citizenship
  • Practicing non-discriminatory education policies

A Vision for the Future

In the concluding session, Mrs. Anshul Sharma (STNC) extended heartfelt gratitude to the keynote speakers and participating educators. Principal Vidhupriya Chakravarty affirmed the school’s commitment to hosting more CBSE-CBP programs in the future, emphasizing the importance of inclusive learning for all.
