Asha Puri from Una district shares her heartfelt gratitude:

Asha lost her son five years ago and now lives with her daughter-in-law, Pooja Puri, and two granddaughters. Facing extreme financial hardship, the family struggled to make ends meet—let alone afford school expenses. But everything changed when they enrolled under the Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana.
“After my husband’s death, it became very difficult to continue the children’s education. Now we receive Rs. 1,000 per month for each daughter. It has lifted a huge burden,” says Pooja.
Similarly, Varsha from Luj village in Pangi Valley (Chamba) lost her father in 2014. As the sole breadwinner, his death shattered the family financially.
“My mother could not afford our education. This scheme gave us support when we needed it most. I am thankful to the Chief Minister,” says Varsha.

This progressive welfare scheme aims to empower children of widowed, destitute, abandoned women and differently-abled parents by ensuring their right to education is not denied due to poverty.
Key Benefits:
- ₹1,000/month for children below 18 years for basic education, health, and nutrition.
- Free education for students aged 18–27 years enrolled in degree, diploma, or vocational government courses.
- ₹3,000/month for PG accommodation if hostel facilities are unavailable.
