The Directorate of School Education, Himachal Pradesh, has issued clear instructions to all Government Senior Secondary Schools to assign teaching duties to Lecturers (School-New) from Classes 6 to 12, in accordance with the Recruitment & Promotion (R&P) Rules and the Education Code of the state.

The directive comes in response to observations that many institutions were limiting these lecturers to Classes XI and XII, which contradicts both the terms of their appointment and existing rules. According to the R&P Rules, Lecturers (SN) are not only qualified to teach their postgraduate subjects in higher secondary classes (XI–XII) but also the subjects studied at the graduation level in middle and secondary classes (VI–X).

The Directorate emphasized that deploying these lecturers across a broader range of classes is both administratively valid and academically necessary, ensuring optimal resource utilization and meeting the educational needs of schools more effectively.

This policy aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages flexible teacher deployment and the strategic use of subject expertise to bridge learning gaps. Principals have been empowered to assign teaching responsibilities as per institutional requirements, avoiding rigid compartmentalization of duties.

Schools have been instructed to implement these guidelines immediately, and any deviation without proper justification will be taken seriously, potentially inviting administrative action. The move aims to enhance academic outcomes and provide equitable learning opportunities across all class levels.
