Marking National Sports Day and commemorating the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand (1905–1979), the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, hosted the inaugural session of its Annual Sports Competitions today at the Institute’s Sports Complex.
The event began at 5:00 PM and was presided over by Mehar Chand Negi, Secretary of the Institute. It saw enthusiastic participation from Fellows, Associates, officers, and staff, all gathered to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork, and physical well-being.
Following the formal inauguration, friendly matches in badminton and table tennis were conducted, where participants demonstrated notable discipline, coordination, and sporting spirit. The competitions will proceed in phases, with schedules and results to be shared via the Institute’s internal communication channels and notice boards.
In his concluding remarks, Kesar Singh, Sports Secretary of IIAS, extended thanks to all participants, officials, and support teams. He also reaffirmed the Institute’s dedication to promoting a culture of healthy living and regular sports engagement within the community.
