The Ministry of Education has highlighted steps being taken to improve the quality of school and higher education through better assessment systems and reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The National Assessment Centre, PARAKH, established in 2023, evaluates learning outcomes and sets standards for student assessment. The PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024 assessed over 21.15 lakh students, 2.70 lakh teachers and school leaders from 74,000+ schools across 781 districts in Classes 3, 6 and 9.
The survey collected data on learning outcomes, teacher training, teaching methods, digital access, infrastructure and other factors affecting education quality. The Ministry said improvements were recorded in foundational literacy and numeracy skills compared to NAS 2021, reflecting progress under the NIPUN Bharat Mission.
For higher education, NAAC continues accreditation of institutions, while NIRF ranks colleges and universities on parameters including teaching, research, outcomes and inclusivity.
Government initiatives such as Samagra Shiksha, PM POSHAN and PM SHRI schools are aimed at strengthening infrastructure, teacher training, digital learning, inclusive education and skill-based learning.
