Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today released the 16th edition of the acclaimed literary work “Hindi Ka Gadya Sahitya” at Raj Bhavan, describing it as a seminal contribution to the field of Hindi literature.

Authored by the late Acharya Ramchandra Tiwari, a renowned scholar, critic, and former Head of the Hindi Department at Gorakhpur University, the book is considered a foundational reference on the evolution and critical study of Hindi prose. Acharya Tiwari was a recipient of the Hindi Gaurav Samman from the Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan, Lucknow. The newly revised and expanded edition has been compiled by his son, Dr. Premvrat Tiwari.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor highlighted the historical and scholarly significance of the book, calling it a “treasury of Hindi prose.” He noted that since its first publication in 1955, the book has guided generations of students, scholars, and teachers with its in-depth research and critical analysis, covering writers from Bharatendu Harishchandra to Phanishwar Nath Renu.

Describing Acharya Tiwari’s work as visionary and timeless, the Governor said the book continues to be indispensable for researchers, educators, and literary enthusiasts alike.

Prof. Chittaranjan Mishra, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha, and former Head of Hindi Department, Gorakhpur University, lauded the book as a remarkable repository of literary scholarship, stating that Acharya Tiwari’s critical approach stemmed from deep personal contemplation rather than external influence.

Also speaking on the occasion, Prof. Himanshu Chaturvedi, Director of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, praised Acharya Tiwari’s enduring legacy in Hindi literature, describing the book as an invaluable asset for literary scholars and researchers.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Dharmvrat Tiwari.

Also present were Secretary to the Governor, C.P. Verma, distinguished scholars, and fellows from the Indian Institute of Advanced Study.
