Akshita Sharma, a graduate of NIFT Delhi, met CM Sukhu today and presented him with a handcrafted artwork rooted in Himachal’s traditional aesthetics. Drawing inspiration from the mud-washed walls of Spiti and Lahaul, the piece seamlessly blends natural elements with cultural symbolism. It features agate and jasper stones, historically used in Himalayan jewellery, which not only act as visual and tactile elements but are also believed to carry grounding and protective energies.
The Chief Minister appreciated Akshita’s unique creative expression and congratulated her for her ongoing efforts in reviving heritage crafts, creating culturally meaningful designs, and developing contemporary product lines that highlight the rich artistic legacy of Himachal Pradesh.
A 2016 NIFT Delhi alumna, Akshita Sharma is a designer and creative consultant whose work lies at the intersection of craft, culture, and modern design practices. Over the past five years, she has collaborated with artisan clusters and government bodies across Himachal Pradesh, working on projects that emphasize sustainability, storytelling, and community empowerment.
Among her notable contributions are the revival of the hemp Pulla craft in Gadagushaini, and the curation of artisanal gifts for dignitaries including the Prime Minister, President of India, and Sadhguru. She also represented Himachal Pradesh at the G20 Summit in New Delhi, showcasing local heritage on a global platform.
Continuing her mission to make traditional crafts relevant in contemporary life, Akshita actively works with institutions, startups, and artisan communities, ensuring that Himachal’s cultural legacy remains alive, evolving, and economically sustainable.
