In a major boost to educational infrastructure, Education Minister Rohit Thakur today announced that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across India — including two in Himachal Pradesh at Kotkhai (Shimla district) and Paonta Sahib (Sirmaur district).
He stated that this achievement reflects the State Government’s proactive approach in advocating for improved access to quality education in rural and semi-urban regions. The proposal was made on the recommendation of the Himachal Pradesh government, underscoring its vision to strengthen educational infrastructure under the broader goal of transforming the state into a knowledge hub.
These new Kendriya Vidyalayas will offer education from pre-primary level onwards under the CBSE curriculum, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The move is expected to benefit thousands of students by bringing quality education and modern infrastructure closer to home, reducing the dependency on urban centres for better educational opportunities.
Each KV will create direct employment for around 80 teaching and non-teaching staff, while the associated construction and support work will generate further jobs for skilled and unskilled workers, thereby boosting local economies in both districts.
Thakur expressed gratitude to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for his support and cooperation in realizing this step forward. He reiterated that the state government will continue its efforts to bring more centrally sponsored educational institutions to the state, especially in aspirational and underserved districts.
The Education Minister said that these developments are part of ongoing reforms under “Vyavastha Parivartan”, aimed at making education more inclusive, accessible, and forward-looking. “Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every child in Himachal has equal access to high-quality education, modern facilities, and the opportunity to succeed,” he added.
