Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurated the Model United Nations and Youth Parliament session at Himachal Pradesh University today, encouraging the youth to use their energy and intellect in constructive ways for the nation’s progress. The event was held under the Viksit Bharat@2047 initiative, launched by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with HPU.

In his address, the Governor emphasized that India is a young nation, and the creativity, innovation, and drive of its youth will play a pivotal role in transforming the country into a developed nation by 2047. He called upon students to channel their enthusiasm towards nation-building rather than conflicts, underscoring the importance of purposeful engagement.

He praised such platforms as vital for shaping the minds of young citizens and fostering debate on national and global issues. He lauded the students for maintaining their cultural values while engaging in modern discussions, calling cultural awareness “the soul of democracy.”

Highlighting the unique identity of Himachal Pradesh’s youth, the Governor appreciated their deep-rooted respect for tradition and culture. Referring to the Kullu Dussehra, he remarked on the devotion of young people who actively participate in traditional rituals, such as pulling the chariot of Lord Raghunath, which symbolizes their commitment to preserving cultural heritage. He said this spirit would help India re-establish itself as a Vishvaguru (world leader).

“The youth are not only the present but also the torchbearers of the future,” he said, adding that values like simplicity, honesty, and humanity, embedded in Himachali culture, are India’s strength. He reminded students that while rights are important, they must be exercised with a strong sense of responsibility in a democratic society.

Governor Shukla also praised the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Panch Pran (Five Resolutions), aligning it with the objectives of the Viksit Bharat@2047 mission. He urged students to contribute through their ideas, ideals, and actions toward shaping a progressive, inclusive, and sustainable India.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mahavir Singh welcomed the Governor and emphasized that such events help foster critical thinking and civic understanding among students. Prof. Preeti Saxena, Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Shimla, also addressed the gathering, stressing the need for balancing development with environmental conservation, and advocated for greater awareness of sustainable development and voting rights.
