The Himachal Pradesh Government has achieved remarkable progress in transforming the landscape of technical and vocational education under the leadership of CM Sukhu. Over 12,378 youth have secured employment through job fairs, campus drives and joint placement initiatives, while 14,421 students and 1,203 faculty members have benefited from digital learning via MOOCs and SWAYAM platforms.
This transformation goes beyond conventional diplomas and degrees—technical and vocational institutions are now being developed as engines of employment generation, innovation, and industry collaboration, preparing youth with future-ready skills aligned with the digital economy.
A network of 348 technical and industrial training institutions—including engineering colleges, pharmacy colleges, polytechnics, and ITIs—is currently operational across the state. New institutions such as the Government Pharmacy College, Sulah, and Government Polytechnic, Jandaur have expanded access to quality education in underserved regions. The introduction of cutting-edge disciplines like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Electric Vehicle Technology, IoT, Mechatronics, and 19 modern ITI trades reflects a forward-looking approach to skill development.
Quality assurance remains a key focus, with four undergraduate programs of JLN Government Engineering College, Sundernagar accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. Himachal has also taken a pioneering step by introducing Drone Service Technician training across 11 government ITIs, certifying 128 trainees in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Nigam—placing the State among the frontrunners in drone technology training.
To strengthen industry–institute linkages, over 170 MoUs have been signed with industry partners, enabling student internships, apprenticeships, and knowledge exchange under NATS and NAPS schemes.
Infrastructure modernization has been a major focus. Under the ADB-funded Himachal Pradesh Skill Development Project, equipment in 50 ITIs, one Polytechnic, and one Engineering College was upgraded at a cost of ₹80.98 crore, benefiting nearly 5,880 students. Additionally, the government has invested ₹5.92 crore in energy-efficient upgrades, including video conferencing systems, smart computers, power-saving inverters, on-grid solar plants, and solar street lights—making ITIs both digital-ready and environmentally sustainable.
Through these reforms, the State Government has redefined technical and vocational education from mere skill training to a comprehensive ecosystem for employment, innovation, and sustainability. With futuristic courses, enhanced infrastructure, and strong placement outcomes, Himachal Pradesh is steadily emerging as a model State for skill-based education, empowering its youth to lead in the technology-driven decade ahead.
