The meeting of the General Development Committee of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Whip and Committee Chairman Kewal Singh Pathania.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed the progress of major hydroelectric projects — Shongtong-Karcham and Kashang (Phase-II & III) in Kinnaur district, and Chanju (Phase-II & III) in Chamba district. The departmental representatives provided detailed updates on the current status of these projects.
Pathania expressed concern over the delay in completion of the projects, emphasizing that such delays result in significant financial losses to the State exchequer. He directed the concerned officials to ensure that all works are completed within the stipulated timelines to prevent further loss and expedite power generation benefits.
The committee also resolved to conduct on-site inspections of all three projects to assess the ground realities and ensure effective monitoring.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the grant demands of the Electricity Development Department for the financial year 2023–24, discussing the allocation and utilization of funds for the State’s energy development initiatives.
