India has been officially awarded the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad designated as the host city, marking the nation’s return as a host after 20 years. The announcement was made during the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly in Glasgow and ratified by delegates from 74 member nations and territories.

PM Modi celebrated the milestone on X, stating: “Delighted that India has won the bid to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030! It is our collective commitment and spirit of sportsmanship that has placed India firmly on the global sporting map.”

A special ceremony at New Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS), featured Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, top officials from the Indian Olympic Association, Olympians, Commonwealth medallists, and sporting icons. Dr. Mandaviya described the announcement as historic, highlighting India’s growing global confidence in hosting international sporting events and its vision to enter the top 5 sporting nations by 2047.

The CGF noted that India’s bid, centred on Ahmedabad, promises a memorable centenary celebration, building on lessons from Glasgow 2026. The New Delhi event showcased India’s Commonwealth Games legacy, including its medal achievements in 2010 and 2022, and featured a laser show, fireworks, and the unveiling of the official hashtag: #CWG2030InBHARAT.

India’s hosting of the 2030 Games underscores the nation’s rising global sporting stature and commitment to excellence, sustainability, and world-class infrastructure.
