The 450 MW Shongtong Hydropower Project has achieved significant progress, officials reported at a Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting chaired by Revenue and Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi.
Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) updated that the river diversion work has been completed, the barrage construction is nearing completion, and 81.91% of the feeder tunnel has been finished. Hydro-mechanical works have also commenced.
HPPCL Managing Director Abid Hussain Sadiq stated that the first unit of the project is scheduled for commissioning by December 2026. Key milestones already achieved include the widening of three vertical pressure shafts and the completion of Unit-1 of the powerhouse.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress, Minister Negi urged officials to accelerate work on the Lippa project and ensure timely completion of all ongoing hydropower projects.
