In a significant step toward digitising public healthcare services, Indira Gandhi Medical College has rolled out the upgraded e-Sushrut Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) in nearly all its departments. The move reinforces the institution’s shift toward a paperless, transparent, and patient-focused healthcare framework.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Rahul Rao stated that the hospital is dedicated to delivering modern, accountable, and high-quality medical services to the people of Himachal Pradesh. He added that the digital system will be extended to the remaining units in a phased manner.

The new system represents a major overhaul of hospital functioning by bringing clinical and administrative operations onto a single digital platform. Patients can now benefit from services such as online registration, ABHA ID linkage, electronic medical records, e-prescriptions, and digital billing.

Designed to enhance speed, safety, and convenience in healthcare delivery, the system also reduces paperwork and limits the chances of manual errors.

Hospital officials noted that the digital transition has improved operational efficiency, coordination, and transparency among departments. With patient records and workflows now digitised, doctors and medical staff can instantly access medical histories, lab reports, and diagnostic data, enabling quicker decisions and smoother service delivery.

With the large-scale implementation of this electronic health record system, IGMC Shimla has emerged as the first institution in Himachal Pradesh to successfully establish such a comprehensive digital health infrastructure.
