In Delhi’s neighborhoods, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (JAKs) are turning routine healthcare into a story of savings, dignity, and independence. These Kendras, part of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana, provide affordable, high-quality medicines, ensuring that financial strain does not compromise access to essential healthcare.

For senior citizens like Shweta ji, 60, the nearest Janaushadhi Kendra has been a lifeline for the past eight years. She purchases medicines for diabetes, acidity, calcium, vitamins, and insulin, saving significantly on her monthly expenses. “Earlier, medicines were expensive, and managing monthly bills was stressful. Now, I can step out independently and manage my health with confidence,” she says.

Similarly, Goverdhan ji has relied on the Kendra for six years for blood pressure and diabetes medications. “It is close to our house, and we can come on our own,” he explains. “Good quality medicines at affordable prices give us a sense of independence and empowerment.”

For families managing chronic illnesses, the impact is even more pronounced. Sanjiv Kumar highlights that monthly medicine expenses for him and his wife have dropped from ₹6,000–7,000 to just ₹2,000 at the Janaushadhi Kendra. “The money we save now goes toward other essential needs of the family,” he adds.

Working-class citizens like Ashok Kumar echo this sentiment: “Affordable medicines ensure that health does not become a financial burden.” Sunil Kumar also points out how the presence of the Kendra has reduced prescription anxiety, transforming worry over medicine costs into relief.

Beyond affordability, Janaushadhi Kendras are also spaces of resilience and community service. Ram Adhar, a divyang entrepreneur with Leg Length Discrepancy (LLD), runs a Kendra serving 30–40 customers daily. “I wanted to do something meaningful for my area,” he shares. His story reflects how courage and opportunity can empower not just one individual, but an entire community.

For senior citizens, professionals, divyang entrepreneurs, and families, Janaushadhi Kendras provide more than medicines—they provide trust, relief, and a sense of empowerment, making quality healthcare accessible to all without financial strain.
