World Water Day, observed annually on 22 March, is a United Nations initiative aimed at highlighting the vital role of freshwater in sustaining life and promoting sustainable development. The day emphasizes the need for equitable access to safe drinking water, the conservation of water resources, and the protection of ecosystems that depend on them. Globally, it serves as a platform to raise awareness about water-related challenges such as scarcity, pollution, climate change impacts, and inefficient usage. Communities, schools, and governments organize activities like river clean-ups, water conservation campaigns, and educational programs to engage citizens in responsible water management. In India, World Water Day aligns with initiatives like the Jal Jeevan Mission and Jal Mahotsav, which focus on providing tap water to rural households, encouraging water conservation, and fostering community participation, underlining the message that sustainable water use is essential for health, development, and environmental balance.
