Shimla is undergoing a major urban transformation aimed at reinforcing its iconic heritage while solving day-to-day civic bottlenecks. In a significant infrastructure rollout, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu dedicated three major development projects worth ₹108.16 crore to the capital city, focusing on structural stability, commercial amenities, and civic housing.
At the heart of these projects is the completion of the long-awaited stabilization and improvement work at the historic Ridge Maidan, executed at a cost of ₹66.81 crore. The comprehensive engineering effort permanently addresses long-standing soil subsidence issues, securing the structural integrity of Shimla’s premier public gathering space. Adding to the city’s convenience, the Chief Minister also inaugurated a ₹6.85 crore parking and shopping complex near Shri Gurudwara Sahib at the Old Bus Stand, designed to ease traffic congestion and support local shopkeepers, commuters, and transport operators.
Laying the groundwork for municipal welfare, CM Sukhu inaugurated the construction of a ₹34.50 crore residential complex for Shimla Municipal Corporation employees at Pashu Padav near Boileauganj (Baluganj). Highlighted in the unveiling was the state’s broader vision to modernize Shimla without compromising its heritage value—pointing to ongoing projects like the widening of Circular Road, the ₹150 crore underground utility duct network from Chhota Shimla to CTO, and the ambitious ₹600 crore Sabzi Mandi commercial redevelopment.
