In a significant development for Himachal Pradesh, Dr Yogesh Bhardwaj, Principal of Government Dental College & Hospital, Shimla, has been nominated to the Dental Advisory Council constituted by the Government of India under the National Dental Commission Act, 2023.
The notification, issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Dental Education Section) on April 20, 2026, marks the formation of the new advisory body at the national level. Dr Bhardwaj has been included as a state nominee, bringing recognition to his contributions in dental education and clinical practice.
Earlier, Dr Bhardwaj served as Vice Principal-cum-Professor and Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Over his career, he has played a key role in academic leadership, patient care, and research in the field of dental sciences. He has also been associated as international faculty with the AOCMF, Switzerland, and has delivered lectures at several national and international conferences. His academic work includes multiple research publications and over 40 keynote addresses in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Following his nomination, Dr Bhardwaj expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh for the trust placed in him and assured that he would work with dedication to promote dental education, research, and improved oral healthcare services. He also emphasized his commitment to representing the state’s interests at the national level and contributing to policy development in the dental sector.
Officials stated that his inclusion in the council is expected to strengthen Himachal Pradesh’s representation in national healthcare policymaking and support the advancement of dental education and services across the country.
