Shivalik Institute of Nursing concluded its week-long celebrations of International Nurses Week 2025 with a vibrant valedictory function in Shimla, highlighting the theme “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies.”

The closing ceremony featured cultural performances, group dances, modelling events and felicitation of nurses from Indira Gandhi Medical College for their dedicated service in healthcare. The event also witnessed enthusiastic participation in various competitions held throughout the week, including poster making, mehendi, face painting, hairdo and makeup, handwriting, rangoli, role play, dumb charades, declamation contests, a fashion show and sports activities.

The week-long programme was organised around International Nurses Day, observed globally on May 12 in memory of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. This year’s theme emphasized the crucial role of nurses in strengthening healthcare systems and the need for better working conditions, recognition, leadership opportunities and skill development.

At the valedictory ceremony, Nursing Superintendent Shashi Kala Negi attended as the chief guest and felicitated distinguished nursing professionals including Ms. Kanta Dhiman and Ms. Isha Thakur for their exemplary service. She appreciated the efforts of students and faculty in organizing the celebrations and praised their dedication to nursing education and training.

Principal Dr. Shama Louhmi highlighted the importance of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) theme, stating that nurses form the backbone of the healthcare system and play a vital role in patient care, emotional support, health education and emergency response.

Managing Director Shobha Thakur distributed prizes to winners and congratulated students and nursing staff on the successful completion of the celebrations. Among the houses, Emerald House emerged as the overall winner of the week-long competitions, while Ruby House secured the second position.
