Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday announced a series of fuel-saving measures at Raj Bhavan, declaring it a special “Fuel Conservation Zone” in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of self-reliance and energy conservation.
The Governor said every Sunday would be observed as a “Petrol-Free Sunday,” with no official petrol or diesel vehicles in use. Official work on Sundays will be conducted through video conferencing or by combining travel schedules to reduce fuel consumption.
He also ordered a 50 per cent reduction in his official convoy and directed that unnecessary meetings be held online to minimise travel and vehicle movement.
Gupta further announced that he would not use the state government helicopter for official travel until the West Asia crisis ends and fuel prices stabilise.
As Chancellor of state universities, he urged Vice Chancellors to promote carpooling, cycling and public transport on campuses. He also appealed to youth to support fuel conservation, use public transport, and promote the “Vocal for Local” campaign by buying Indian-made products and encouraging domestic tourism.
