The CSIR–National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR), New Delhi, and the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in science communication, public engagement, and science & technology policy research.
The agreement, signed on 25 May 2026, aims to promote joint research initiatives, exchange of faculty and scholars, and the organisation of collaborative events and capacity-building programmes between the two premier institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Shailesh Nayak highlighted the importance of inter-institutional collaboration in strengthening science communication frameworks and building structured capacity development programmes.
Geetha Vani Rayasam emphasized the need for inclusive science communication strategies that are tailored for diverse audiences, along with the responsible use of emerging technologies to improve public engagement. She also underlined the importance of ethical use of artificial intelligence in multilingual science communication.
Following the signing ceremony, a brainstorming session was held on the theme “Inclusive Science Communication in the Digital Era: Priorities, Practices and Policies.” Experts from NIAS, NIScPR, Gubbi Labs, and IISc Bengaluru participated in the discussion and shared insights on strengthening responsible science communication practices.
The panel highlighted key priorities such as building public trust in science, training science communicators and journalists, tackling misinformation, promoting citizen science, strengthening science communication in schools, and developing India-specific policy frameworks.
