Akashvani marked its 90th year celebrations by inaugurating the photo gallery ‘Swar Prerna Veethika’ at Akashvani Bhavan, New Delhi. The gallery was inaugurated by Padma Vibhushan Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, honouring the long association between Akashvani and India’s legendary musicians.
The initiative pays tribute to iconic artistes who shaped India’s musical heritage and remained closely linked with Akashvani. In its first phase, portraits of 20 eminent musicians, including Bharat Ratna awardees like M.S. Subbulakshmi, Lata Mangeshkar, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Bismillah Khan and Bhimsen Joshi, were unveiled.
Officials said the gallery will expand in phases and similar displays will be set up at Akashvani centres across the country. They also highlighted Akashvani’s continued role in promoting Indian music through its digital channels such as Raagam and Aaradhana.
Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia called the occasion a “homecoming,” recalling his early days with Akashvani and expressing hope for its continued cultural legacy.
The launch marks a key milestone in Akashvani’s efforts to preserve and promote India’s rich musical tradition.
