In a major push to modernize public healthcare across Himachal Pradesh, CM Sukhu has instructed officials to expedite the procurement and installation of ₹300 crore worth of advanced medical machinery and equipment. Presiding over a review meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Medical Services Corporation Limited (HPMSCL), the Chief Minister emphasized that all purchasing procedures must remain transparent, competitive, and strictly time-bound so that state-of-the-art medical services reach citizens without delay.
As part of the initial phase, tenders have already been floated for several flagship projects, including a ₹75 crore track-based total lab automation system aimed at establishing automated laboratories in medical colleges by the end of this year. The state is also investing ₹50 crore to introduce PET scan machines at the Nerchowk and Tanda government medical colleges. To ensure consistent healthcare delivery, the government has set aside ₹100 crore for medicines and ₹30 crore for surgical consumables, alongside targeted equipment upgrades for institutions in Chamba, Hamirpur, Chamiana, and Shimla.
Under the upcoming second phase, the state will roll out an additional ₹83 crore in tenders to procure specialized medical technology. This includes ₹30 crore for Biplane DSA machines at Chamiana and Tanda, ₹20 crore for high-speed 256-slice CT scanners across five major centers, and ₹10 crore to establish Bone Marrow BMT and Apheresis Units across key medical colleges. Dedicated funding has also been allocated for robotic surgery equipment, advanced ultrasound machines, and skill development labs.
The Chief Minister directed senior officials to closely monitor every stage of the procurement pipeline to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks. By equipping medical colleges, district hospitals, and community health centers with high-end diagnostic and surgical tools, the state government aims to provide accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare locally, significantly reducing the need for patients to travel outside their home districts or state for specialized care.
