CM Sukhu has invited tourism and hospitality industry leaders to explore Himachal Pradesh’s emerging, lesser-known destinations. Speaking at the 56th Annual Convention of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) in Varanasi, he urged hotel professionals, travel agents, and tour operators to incorporate the state’s hidden gems into their travel packages. He highlighted that today’s travelers are moving beyond conventional sightseeing in search of peace, nature, wellness, authentic local culture, and community engagement—preferences for which Himachal Pradesh is naturally suited.
To support this shift toward experiential and rural travel, the state government is encouraging caravan tourism, weekend getaways, and local homestays through the newly introduced Home Stay Rules, 2025. Himachal Pradesh is also developing a ‘She Travel’ Policy to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for women travelers while encouraging women-led tourism enterprises. Alongside these initiatives, the state is expanding its popular adventure tourism offerings—such as paragliding in Bir-Billing, skiing, and trekking—as well as promoting its rich spiritual tourism centered around historic temples, Shakti Peeths, and monasteries.
Infrastructure development remains a top priority to facilitate seamless travel across the region. Kangra is being transformed into the state’s official ‘Tourism Capital,’ featuring plans for the expansion of Kangra Airport and a surrounding Aerocity. Furthermore, the government is establishing heliports at or near every district headquarters to enhance overall connectivity, assist in emergency medical services, and support disaster management.
These efforts build upon a strong recovery in footfall across the state. Himachal Pradesh recorded 3.11 crore tourists in 2025—which included 1.66 crore religious visitors—and has already welcomed 1.06 crore tourists through July 2026. Chief Minister Sukhu called for a strong partnership with industry stakeholders to build a sustainable, safe, and memorable tourism ecosystem that preserves the state’s environmental and cultural heritage.
