On Teachers’ Day, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Awards on Teachers at a ceremony in New Delhi, celebrating exceptional educators from across the nation. Addressing the gathering, the President highlighted education as the single most effective tool for realizing the constitutional vision of equal opportunity. She commended the teaching community for their dedicated efforts in driving down primary school dropout rates to negligible levels, calling it a major national achievement.
President Murmu emphasized that early school education lays the ground for a child’s lifelong development. While technical skills can be acquired at any stage, building character, moral values, and intellectual curiosity during early childhood is far more impactful. She noted that teachers carry a special duty to uplift students who face distinct challenges—including first-generation learners, economically disadvantaged youth, children with special needs, and rural students adapting to urban environments—by instilling in them the confidence to succeed.
Looking toward the country’s long-term growth, the President linked the teaching profession directly to India’s vision of becoming a Viksit Bharat, a global knowledge superpower, and the skill capital of the world. She underscored that a world-class education system relies entirely on the dedication of its teachers, urging them to ensure no child is deprived of quality learning and to lead their students with affection, morality, and purpose.
