The New Delhi Declaration adopted at the 18th BRICS Summit has given a major boost to international cooperation in Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine (TCIM). Recognizing the role of traditional medicine in strengthening health systems and achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the declaration welcomed the establishment of a dedicated BRICS Expert Working Group on TCIM under the BRICS Health Track. Union Minister of State for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav and Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha emphasized that this step reinforces India’s commitment to advancing Ayurveda and other traditional systems globally through rigorous scientific validation, standardized quality assurance, and international collaboration.
The initiative places heavy emphasis on evidence-informed approaches, regulatory frameworks, and joint research on medicinal plants and shared pharmacopoeias across member states. This framework builds directly on the consensus reached during the BRICS Meeting on TCIM held in Chandigarh in July 2026 under India’s BRICS Chairship. Aligned with the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025–2034, the new working group creates a structured platform for BRICS nations to exchange technical expertise, institutionalize research collaboration, and deliver safe, effective, and affordable healthcare solutions worldwide.
