In a major push to enhance child health and nutrition, the Himachal Pradesh government has approved an amendment to the Mukhya Mantri Bal Paushtik Aahaar Yojna. Under the revised scheme, students from Nursery to Class VIII in government schools will now receive supplementary nutritional top-ups—specifically a boiled egg or fresh seasonal fruit like apples and bananas—twice a week alongside their regular Mid-Day Meal, up from the previous once-a-week schedule.
CM Sukhu stated that the decision reflects the government’s strong commitment to child welfare, healthy growth, and overall well-being. The distribution will preferably take place on Wednesdays and Fridays based on the preferences of students and parents. Local procurement through Self-Help Groups, Mahila Mandals, and School Management Committees (SMCs) will ensure freshness, while Block Elementary Education Officers (BEEOs) will manage quarterly budget releases based on student enrollment. Strict adherence to FSSAI guidelines for hygiene, food safety, and quality control has been made mandatory across all schools.
