In a joint high-altitude rescue operation, personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), local police, and area residents successfully rescued a 12-member mountaineering team stranded near Mount Leo Pargil-2 in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district. The expedition team, belonging to the Kolkata-based adventure club Himalaya’s Beckon, encountered severe weather conditions while attempting to summit the peak.
The mountaineers called off their summit bid just below the peak after experiencing relentless snowfall, whiteout conditions, and altitude sickness affecting a team member. Upon retreating to their base camp, heavy midnight snowfall trapped the group, preventing their planned descent toward Nako village. Recognizing the peril, the team alerted emergency services and the ITBP.
Rescue teams, accompanied by medical staff and guided by experienced local residents, navigated the hazardous terrain to reach the stranded climbers. All 12 members were provided necessary medical aid and safely brought down to Nako village.
