Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu interacted with students of PM Shri Government Model Senior Secondary School, CBSE, Rohru, engaging with them on a range of issues concerning education, technology, employment and the future of Himachal Pradesh.
During the interaction, a girl student requested the Chief Minister to provide a new building for the school, citing the increase in student strength since its conversion to a CBSE institution and the need to conduct classes in two shifts. Responding to her request, the Chief Minister announced ₹2 crore for construction of a new school building.
He said that if the sanctioned amount proved insufficient for completing the project, the state government would provide additional funds as required. He added that construction of the new campus would take some time, but the government was committed to developing modern school campuses equipped with better facilities for CBSE schools across the state.
Chief Minister Sukhu said the state government was giving special attention to expanding CBSE education in the government sector, particularly with the objective of providing students in rural areas access to quality and modern education. He said government schools should provide children with educational facilities and opportunities comparable to those available in private institutions.
The interaction also gave students an opportunity to put personal and thought-provoking questions to the Chief Minister. Asked whether meeting people’s expectations or managing his time was his biggest challenge, he said both were important, but improving the state’s financial position in a timely manner had been the biggest challenge before his government. He said the state was working towards becoming self-reliant and financially stronger, with the objective of making Himachal Pradesh one of the leading and prosperous states in the country in the coming years.
A UKG student took the Chief Minister down memory lane by asking about the stories his grandparents used to narrate during his childhood. Recalling his early years, Chief Minister Sukhu said family members would gather around a fire during the winter months and share stories. He fondly recalled the story of the ‘Seven Sisters’ among the tales he heard during his childhood.
Responding to a question about the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its possible impact on children’s intellectual development, the Chief Minister described AI as an important technology of the modern era. At the same time, he stressed that its effective and responsible use required a strong foundation in education and knowledge. He encouraged students to study diligently and build a sound knowledge base to prepare themselves for the challenges of the future.
On employment opportunities, the Chief Minister told the students that quality education was the foundation for building the ability to think, understand and make informed choices about the future. He said the state government was working to expand employment opportunities in the government sector while also encouraging self-employment and entrepreneurship, enabling young people to create opportunities for themselves and others.
During the interaction, Chief Minister Sukhu said the future of Himachal Pradesh was bright and reiterated the government’s commitment to building a self-reliant, financially strong and prosperous state. He encouraged the students to focus on education, develop confidence and skills, and prepare themselves to contribute meaningfully to the future development of Himachal Pradesh.
