In a landmark step toward empowering Himachal Pradesh’s remote farming communities, CM Sukhu officially launched the ‘Pangi Apple’ brand today. Marking a historic shift for the Pangi Sub-Division—recently declared the state’s very first Natural Farming Sub-Division—the initiative gives the valley’s chemical-free, naturally grown apples a distinct national identity. For years, Pangi’s premium harvest was packed and sold under external labels like ‘Kullu’ or ‘Kinnaur’ apples, overshadowing the valley’s unique agricultural contribution.
To correct this historical oversight, the state government has introduced customized 10 kg and 20 kg ‘Pangi Apple’ packaging cartons, made available to local growers at a 50 percent subsidy. With roughly 370 hectares under cultivation, over 1,04,000 apple trees, and a projected yield of 35,000 boxes (around 550 MT) this season, the branding drive aims to directly benefit nearly 6,300 farming families. By fostering local entrepreneurship and chemical-free agriculture, CM Sukhu emphasized that the government is committed to elevating the socio-economic standing of this remote tribal region and bringing its economic opportunities on par with the rest of the state.
