Silver Jubilee  Celebration, that is 25 years of Convention on Biological Diversity Day  was flagged off today at the Shimla Water Catchment Sanctuary, Dhalli  by Ajay Sharma, PCCF, Finance HPFD, Kunal Satyarthi, Member Secretary HIMCOSTE and Rajesh Sharma, DFO Wildlife Shimla, in collaboration with the Education Department  and Wildlife Wing of HPFD. Celebration of the IDB under this theme therefore provides an opportunity to raise awareness and action towards the economic growth and to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

Goraya, PCCF (HoFF), HP Forest Department was the special guest for the day who delivered lecture on biodiversity, its importance, need for its conservation and sustainable use of its components. It is estimated that around 250 students and 50 teachers from various public and government schools from across Shimla town over the period of 5 days would participate in nature walk.

Biodiversity Week Celebration at Water Catchment Wildlife SanctuaryOn 16th May, around 50 students and 11 escort teachers from 11 schools across the City went for a Nature visit at SWC. As these will be a week long celebrations they will be guided by Santosh Thakur, Ishwar, Satish and Dr Roshan Chauhan all from the Dept. More than 50 species of flora were shown to all present and more than 15 species of birds seen during the walk.

Himachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Board (HPSBB) on the occasion of “International Day for Biodiversity”, on 22nd May, 2018 under the supervision of Sh. Kunal Satyarthi,  Member Secretary, HPSBB is organizing Biodiversity Week Celebration at Water Catchment Wildlife Sanctuary,  Shimla from 16th May, 2018 to 20th May, 2018 during which lectures, awareness campaign and information on biodiversity, its importance, need for its conservation and sustainable use of its components will be disseminated to school students from different Government and Public schools across Shimla town.
