1818- प्रसिद्ध जर्मन दार्शनिक, अर्थशास्त्री और वैज्ञानिक कार्ल मार्क्स का जन्म।
1821- फ्रांसीसी राजनीतिक नेता और सैन्य अधिकारी नेपोलियन बोनापार्ट का निधन।
1916- भारत के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति ज्ञानी जैल सिंह का जन्म।
1919- पेरिस में रेडक्रॉस सोसाइटी की स्थापना की गई।
1925- दक्षिण अफ्रीका सरकार ने अफ्रीकी को आधिकारिक भाषा घोषित किया।
1927- वर्जीनिया वूल्फ ने लाइटहाउस को पहली बार प्रकाशित किया गया।
1929- भारत के प्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी अब्दुल हमीद कैसर का जन्म।
1937- परमवीर चक्र सम्मानित भारतीय सैनिक मेजर होशियार सिंह का जन्म।
1949- भारत में झारखंड पार्टी की स्थापना।
1950- भुमबोल अदुलदेज को थाईलैंड के राजा बने।
1953- राजनीतिज्ञ एवं स्वतंत्र भारत के पहले वित्त मंत्री आर. के. शनमुखम चेट्टी का निधन।
1961- गणितज्ञ, हिंदी विश्वकोश के संपादक तथा हिंदी में वैज्ञानिक साहित्य के लेखक गोरख प्रसाद का निधन।
1964- यूरोप की परिषद ने पांच मई को यूरोप दिवस के रूप में घोषित किया।
2005- ब्रिटेन में लेबर पार्टी के नेता टोनी ब्लेयर ने तीसरी बार पद संभाला।
2006- प्रसिद्ध फ़िल्मी संगीतकार नौशाद अली का निधन।
2012- नेपाल मेें बाढ़ से 17 लोग मारे गए, 47 लापता।
2017- भारत में उच्च न्यायालय की प्रथम न्यायाधीश लीला सेठ का निधन हुआ।
2017- इसरो ने दक्षिण एशिया उपग्रह का सफलतापूर्वक प्रक्षेपण किया।
