Governor inaugurates International Seminar on Maharishi Dayanand

Governor Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla said that in the current perspective, there is a need to perceive Indian culture according to the current situation and to bring India to the forefront of the world, we have to be proud of our glorious culture.

The Governor was present as the Chief Guest at the inauguration of a three-day international seminar organized by the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla on the occasion of the 200th Birth Anniversary of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati.

He said that Maharishi Dayanand was a great man who initiated a total revolution and gave the slogan of “Go back to the Vedas”. He said that Swamiji propagated the Vedic message to protect the Vedic culture, religion and philosophy and made concrete efforts to remove the deformation in the Vedic religion. He did many works in the direction of social reform, which included the work of upliftment of Dalits by removing caste system and untouchability, opposition to child marriage and Sati Pratha and support of widow re-marriage etc. He said that the credit for getting the Vedas translated into the popular language for the first time goes to Swami Dayanand.
