Shimla Sanjauli Lockdown: Strict Ban on Public Gatherings and Weapons Imposed

The district administration of Shimla has taken decisive steps to ensure law and order in the Sanjauli area, effective from 7 AM on September 11, 2024, till 11:59 PM. District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap has issued an order under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code 2023, banning public gatherings and the possession of weapons in the region to prevent any unrest.

Key Restrictions in Sanjauli:

  • Ban on Public Gatherings: No assembly of 5 or more people is allowed in the Sanjauli area to prevent potential law and order issues.
  • Prohibition on Weapons: Carrying firearms, sticks, axes, swords, spears, and other potentially dangerous objects or flammable materials is strictly prohibited.
  • Prohibition of Loudspeakers and Protests: Dharna, protests, hunger strikes, and slogan shouting are banned without prior permission. Loudspeakers are not allowed in hospitals, courts, educational institutions, and public places.

Area Under Restrictions:

The areas affected include:

  • Nav Bahar Chowk to Eastern Portal of Dhali Tunnel
  • IGMC to Sanjauli Chowk
  • Sanjauli Chowk to Chalonthi
  • Dhali (via Sanjauli Chalonthi Junction)

Despite these restrictions, the administration assures residents that normal life will remain unaffected. Schools, government and private offices, and markets will remain open as usual. The general public will not face any disruptions in daily life, as these measures are precautionary to maintain peace.

Strict Enforcement:

District Magistrate Kashyap emphasized the administration’s commitment to taking strict action to uphold law and order. The measures aim to prevent any potential disruptions in the area and ensure public safety.
