A crucial meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, was held today to address the collapse of a section of the tunnel on the Kaithlighat-Dhali four-lane stretch. The DC emphasized the importance of adhering to safety protocols during tunnel construction to ensure public safety.
Recently, a viral video surfaced showing part of the tunnel’s outer structure collapsing due to heavy rains. Anupam Kashyap clarified that this section was intentionally demolished by the construction company as per standard safety procedures to prevent further incidents. He urged the public to avoid believing in misleading information regarding the collapse.
To ensure thorough investigation, a committee has been set up by the district administration, which will soon submit its findings. Safety arrangements have been reinforced at the construction site, with an ambulance stationed 24/7 and an entry register to track workers inside the tunnel.
The Deputy Commissioner warned the tunnel construction company to strictly adhere to the safety protocol, stating that any negligence will result in serious action. A site visit by the DC is planned soon to inspect the construction process.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Ajit Bhardwaj, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Civil) Shimla Rural Kavita Thakur, officials from the National Highway Authority of India, and Gawar Company.
