Director School Education Ashish Kohli announced today that a mandatory dress code for educators has been implemented across 148 government CBSE schools in Himachal Pradesh. The decision, executed under the guidance of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, is intended to build a more disciplined, organized, and professional atmosphere in schools while reinforcing institutional dignity.
The uniform guidelines have been tailored to balance practical professional demands with the state’s climate. The approved color palette features Light Lilac, Lilac Purple, and Navy Blue, accompanied by black footwear and matching accessories. Women educators may opt for a saree with a blazer, a shirt and trousers with a tie and blazer, or a kurta/kameez paired with pants, plazo, or salwar and a blazer. Male staff members are required to wear formal shirts, trousers, ties, and blazers. Additionally, all educators and principals—including outsourced personnel—must wear official identity cards and display their school or departmental emblem on their blazers, though school heads can approve flexible accommodations for medical conditions, disabilities, or pregnancy.
This dress code forms part of the state’s overarching Vyavastha Parivartan educational reform framework aimed at advancing accountability, equal opportunity, and student-centric learning. As part of these ongoing improvements, the government plans to open 100 new CBSE schools in the upcoming academic session, having already recruited around 2,000 teachers and introduced a thrice-daily attendance tracking mechanism to enhance accountability. To further foster an equitable environment, category details will no longer be listed on student records in PM SHRI schools starting next session, ensuring full inclusivity while preserving all existing welfare entitlements for eligible families.
