Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Virender Kanwar said here today that effective steps had been taken by the State government for the prevention and control of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in livestock and about 50,000 animals had already been vaccinated so far in the state.

He added that necessary guidelines had been issued to the Animal Husbandry Department for the prevention of this disease. Containment zones have been set up to control the disease and necessary steps have also been taken to control the disease by isolating the diseased livestock. Abundant medicines etc. have been made available through the Animal Husbandry Department, he added.

Virender Kanwar said about 1,19,591 doses of vaccine are available with the department and instructions have been given to buy medicine or vaccine from the open market also, if required. He said that there were a total 18,256 active cases in the state till Thursday evening and 5,630 animals had recovered from this disease so far. He said that loss of 513 livestock have been reported due to LSD in the state.

Virender Kanwar said the Animal Husbandry Department was working with full readiness for the prevention of LSD. The State government had immediately issued necessary advisories and guidelines as soon as the first case was reported in the neighbouring state. He said that proper monitoring of cases and daily reporting on LSD has also been ensured. He has urged the livestock owners to cooperate with the department to prevent and control this disease
