Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil announced that X-ray and ultrasound facilities will soon be made available at Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans across Himachal Pradesh, bringing advanced diagnostic services closer to people’s homes.
Chairing a meeting of the Special High Power Purchase Committee of the Himachal Pradesh Medical Services Corporation Limited (HPMSCL), the Minister said the process to install the machines has been completed and they will be commissioned shortly. He added that this move will eliminate the need for patients to travel long distances for basic diagnostic services.
The state is setting up 70 Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans—one in each Assembly constituency and two each in Lahaul-Spiti and Bharmaur—to strengthen primary healthcare delivery.
Dr. Shandil said the government is modernising the health sector by replacing 15–20-year-old equipment with advanced machines in a phased manner. He noted that around ₹3,000 crore is being invested in upgrading healthcare infrastructure and medical equipment, with ₹1,110 crore already spent in the last two years.
He directed officials of HPMSCL to expedite procurement processes while ensuring transparency and quality. The meeting also reviewed strengthening of diagnostic services, procurement of medicines, ICTC testing vehicles, CT scan services, surgical items, blood component separators, and school eye screening programmes.
The Minister further instructed officials to fast-track installation of advanced equipment including laparoscopic surgery sets, PET scan machines, digital radiography systems, colour Doppler ultrasound units, mammography machines and ECH systems in Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans.
He also called for speeding up integrated lab automation systems in medical colleges at Hamirpur and Tanda, as well as Chamiyana Hospital, stating that these upgrades will significantly improve healthcare services across the state.
