The Himachal Pradesh Government on Thursday signed an MoU with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to strengthen climate-resilient, inclusive and sustainable development in the state. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The MoU was signed by Secretary (Environment, Science, Technology and Climate Change) Sushil Singla and UNDP Resident Representative Dr. Angela Lusigi.
The collaboration will focus on circular economy, waste management, electric mobility for waste collection, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration and nature-based solutions. It will also promote social inclusion of waste workers and ensure participation of women, marginalized groups and informal workers in development processes.
CM Sukhu said the partnership would help bring global expertise to local challenges, protect the fragile Himalayan ecosystem and support sustainable livelihoods. He added that the initiative aligns with the state’s goal of becoming a Green Energy State and advancing Sustainable Development Goals.
The CM also launched the Safai Mitra Scheme to empower sanitation and waste management workers, stating that their dignity, safety and welfare are central to the state’s circular economy vision.
