Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri announced that the Himachal Pradesh Government has sanctioned over ₹550 crore for the conservation and development of the state’s rich cultural heritage, religious landmarks, and historical sites. Speaking at an event today, he emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving tradition while modernizing key pilgrimage destinations.

Out of the total funds, around ₹50 crore is earmarked for the restoration of ancient temples, forts, and archaeological sites, while ₹37 crore has been allocated for developmental works in temples under state ownership.

Highlighting digital advancements, Agnihotri noted the successful implementation of the SUGAM Darshan system at Chintpurni Temple, launched on 8th August 2023. The system has improved crowd management and offers specialized services for the elderly and differently-abled. Digital services like online Langar booking and Darshan are also now available, with similar upgrades planned for other temple trusts.

Under the PRASAD scheme, ₹56.26 crore has been approved for Chintpurni Temple, with a new ₹250 crore complex underway to boost religious tourism. Furthermore, ₹100 crore each has been sanctioned for developing the Jwalaji and Naina Devi temples.

To enhance ritual purity and preserve spiritual traditions, temple priests are receiving specialized training. So far, 25 priests from Chintpurni and Naina Devi temples have completed online training through the Sanskrit Faculty at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), with more to follow.

The Deputy CM also shared that ₹11.16 crore has been allocated for cultural heritage maintenance, and religious institutions will continue receiving ₹1 crore annually under a recurring fund scheme. The budget for incense and lighting in smaller temples has been doubled for FY 2025–26.

Beyond infrastructure, Agnihotri emphasized the cultural significance of temples as living centers of tradition. The state government is working to digitize and modernize these sites to ensure a safe and accessible environment for devotees.

Efforts are also underway to promote Himachal’s heritage globally. Initiatives include digital cultural festivals, exhibitions, and documentation of traditional arts, music, handicrafts, and customs. These activities aim to instill pride among youth and give Himachal’s cultural legacy greater national and international visibility.

Agnihotri concluded by stating that these initiatives would help preserve the state’s unique identity, strengthen national unity, and leave a lasting cultural imprint for future generations.
